Obituary of Paul Hughes


HUGHES--Paul M., a former broadcasting executive, died Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at the age of 70. He lived in New Canaan, CT and Hyannis Port, MA. He had been the Chairman of Hughes Broadcasting Partners and OG Holdings until 2000. Prior to that, he was President of King World Broadcasting and President of Viacom International's Broadcast and Entertainment Divisions. He had also served as Exec. Vice President of Tele Rep, Inc. in New York City. Mr. Hughes recently retired from the Cox Radio Board of Directors. His prior community service work included chairing the Greater Hartford MLK Youth Fund, Hartford Urban League and was a former Board member of the Convent of the Sacred Heart in Greenwich, CT and the Doane Stuart School in Albany, NY. Mr. Hughes is survived by his wife, Maureen, three children, Caroleen Mackin, James Hughes and Nancy Hughes, and his sister, Bernardine Hughes, and seven grandchildren. Funeral mass will be 11:00am on Saturday, March 14 at St. Thomas More Catholic church in Darien, CT. Calling hours will be Friday, March 13 from 5-8pm at Hoyt's Funeral Home, 199 Main St. in New Canaan, CT. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in his name to the Convent of the Sacred Heart in NYC, 1 East 91st St., New York, NY 10128.
