ALLEY, Paul Edwin, 70, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, of Tampa, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2007, after his courageous battle with cancer. The people who loved him surrounded Paul. He was born April 8, 1937, in Rockwood, Tenn., to Lavanah Alley and Paul Shortt. His great aunts, Nell Russell and Dixie Brock, raised him. When he was 11 years old, he moved to Tampa with Ms. Russell who he called mother. He attended Buffalo Elementary, Memorial Jr. High and Hillsborough High school. During his junior and senior year, he went to Georgia Military Academy, where he was awarded the "Greatest Service," the school metal for excellence in journalism, sports and leadership. After graduation, he worked for Winn-Dixie Stores and married his sweetheart Esther Marie Williams, and was promoted to produce buyer. He left Winn- Dixie to become sales manager at Homestead Pole Bean Coop and at Lee' s Produce in Naranja, Fla. During this time, Paul was one of the original founders of Perrine-Cutler Ridge Khoury League. He helped build the concession stand and raised money to get the fields built. He became president and then commissioner, and coached the junior team to a championship. He loved sports and could usually be found watching a game or fishing program. He was a great fisherman, and avid baseball and basketball player. He loved to cook for his family and friends. He leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Esther Marie Alley; sons, David, Mark and Steve Alley; and daughter, Lisa Marie Alley-Dunlap; grand-children, Isaac Alley and Alexis Dunlap; and adopted son, Kazu Shindo. He was loved and will be missed by all. A celebration of Paul' s life will be 3 p.m. Saturday, November 3, at Van Dyke United Methodist Church, 17030 Lakeshore Rd, Lutz, FL 33558.
