Obituary of Paul E. Smith


GREENFIELD - Paul E. Smith, 85, of Chapman St., passed away at home on Saturday, August 23, 2014 surrounded by his family.Born in Greenfield on December 30, 1928, son of Elmer and Lucy (Lapine) Smith. As a young man, Paul worked the family farm with his siblings to provide for their family. In addition to the family farm he was employed by the Savage Farms for a period of time.In 1953 Paul became a millwright for the Strathmore Paper Company in Turners Falls. He continued with Strathmore for the next 38 years, retiring in 1991 as the assistant foreman of the millwright department.Most recently he was a crossing guard for the Greenfield School Department.A hardworking man, Paul was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed gardening, planting flowers and cooking. He enjoyed the outdoors and in younger years, liked to go 'coon hunting and fishing.
