MANCHESTER - Paul E. Mitchell, 86, of Manchester, died Sept. 25, 2013, after a period of failing health. Born in Manchester on Nov. 11, 1926, he was the son of Francis and Yvonne (Parant) Mitchell. He was a lifelong resident of the Queen City. He graduated from Manchester High School Central. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Nevada and USS Gearing. Until his retirement in 1987, he was a supervisor in the payment-processing department at Public Service Company of New Hampshire for 37 years. He was a longtime communicant of St. Raphael Church, where he served as a lector of the parish. A loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, his family was the center of his life. An avid sports enthusiast, he was a loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox. He enjoyed fly-fishing, playing cribbage, trips to Foxwoods and Las Vegas. He will be missed by all who knew him. He was married 50 years to Ruth M. (Beard) Mitchell. She died Dec. 28, 1997. He was also predeceased by a son, Gary J. Mitchell, and daughter, Karen Dickson. Family members include two sons, David P. Mitchell of Simpsonville, S.C. and Steven N. Mitchell of East Derry; a daughter, Brenda A. LaPointe of Manchester; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews. . SERVICES: Calling hours are Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. in Connor-Healy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 537 Union St., corner of Concord Street, Manchester. The funeral is Saturday with a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 1 p.m. in St. Raphael Church, Manchester. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Boscawen.
