Paul Crutchfield Smith LUTZ - Paul Crutchfield Smith, 46, who was a sportswriter at the Tallahassee Democrat from 1980 to 1985, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005. The service will be at 1 p.m. EST Thursday at St. Timothy's Catholic Church in Lutz, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Paul's favorite charities, Corner of Hope Food Pantry, c/o Victorious Life Church, 6224 Old Pasco Road, Wesley Chapel, FL 33544, and The Joshua House, a home for abused, neglected or abandoned children, P.O. Box 1907, Lutz, FL 33548.Contributions may also be made to the Paul C. Smith Children's Trust Fund, c/o The Bank of Tampa, P.O. Box 1, Tampa, FL 33601. He was born in Mariemont, Ohio, and attended St. Petersburg Catholic High School, the University of South Florida and the University of Florida. He worked at the Tampa Tribune from 1985 to 2000, including 10 years as sports editor, then worked for MLB.com until his death.He is survived by his wife, Martha; a son, Dale; a daughter, Kelsey; and a sister, Sarah B. Smith of Fort Collins, Colo. His family and many friends will miss Paul's loving spirit, his unfailing good humor and generous nature.
