The eternal rest for Patricia Smith-Siplin began on June 5, 2010 during the evening as she said good-bye to family members at her bedside and moved to the open arms of her heavenly father. She committed her life to God at an early age and joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Patricia (Patty) was born to Emma Roberts Spencer and Jolly Henderson on September 14, 1947. She graduated from Washington High School in Blakely, Georgia, class of 1965. Upon graduating high school, Patricia entered Daytona Beach Community College as a pre-medical student. She continued her pursuit for learning receiving certification in Retail Sales and Business Management and later received IBM keypunch typewriting certification from Monroe Business Institute. Patricia entered the business world at New York Tele, Inc where she worked for many years. She continued her career in telecommunications with Bell South where she retired in 1998. Her accomplishments and recognitions included Telecom Pioneer certificate of appreciation, United Way Gold award for Outstanding Service, and Certificate of Appreciation as Secretary of the Spencer Family Coalition-Emma Spencer Scholarship Fund. She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Anthony Quinn Smith; one brother, Elder Clarence Spencer (Celestine) of Daytona Beach, FL; two sisters, Christine Davis of Daytona Beach, FL and Elizabeth Young (Freddie) of Davenport, FL; one aunt, Viola Roberts of Daytona Beach, FL; five nieces; six nephews; granddaughter, Viaire Robinson of Bermuda; 12 great nieces; six great nephews, and many other relatives, friends, and associates. Visitation with the family will be today (Friday, June 11, 2010) at Herbert Thompson Funeral Home from 6 pm until 8 pm. The funeral service will be Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 2 pm at New St. James Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
