Obituary of Patricia-Ena Mack-Toner


Dr. Patricia Ena Mack-Tonerof Wilmington, Del.Dr. Patricia Ena Mack-Toner died Thursday, December 8th, 2005, after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born in Manchester, England, February 18th, 1934. She attended Medical School at the National University of Ireland, University College Galway, 1954-1960 where she met her loving husband, Robert E. Toner from, Johnson City, N.Y. They married in Manchester, England, August 1960 and moved to the United States where completed her rotating internship at the Charles S. Memorial Hospital, 1960-1961, Johnson City, N.Y. After moving to the state of Delaware where she and her husband resided, she completed her residency training in Psychiatry at the Delaware State Hospital, 1964-1968. She was the assistant Director of Research and Education D.P.C. in association with the Department of Psychiatry, Jefferson Medical School, Philadelphia, Pa., 1968-1970. From 1970-1974, she worked at the Out Patient service at the Wilmington Mental Health Center. From 1973-1998 she had her own private practice of Adult Psychiatry in Wilmington, Del. where she touched the lives of so many people. She retired from private practice December, 1998. From 1998-2001 she continued working at the Out Patient service at the Wilmington Mental Health Center, retired July, 2001. Unable to retire from her work and patients, she returned to work for Dr. Kalkstein, Wilmington, Del., 2001-2004. She was a member of the American Medical Association, Medical Society of Delaware, New Castle Medical Society, American Psychiatric Association and the past President of the Delaware Psychiatric Society. Dr. Mack-Toner was licensed to practice Medicine in the state of Delaware since 1964. She was a dedicated and passionate doctor who helped countless people throughout her years. She was preceded in death in 1998 by her eldest son, Mark. R. Toner. Survived by her beloved husband of 46 years, Robert E. Toner; her son, Michael and wife, Kristen; daughters, Cathy Toner, Lisa Gioffre and husband, Bill; brother, Ken Mack and wife, Nora, Manchester, England; grandchildren, Rachel and Colin Toner and Will and Alex Gioffre. A special thank you to all friends and family for their love and support (Carol Toner and Compassionate Care Hospice)A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, December 12th, at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 9th and Dupont Streets, Wilmington, Del., where friends and family are invited to call after 10 a.m. Interment will be private.
