JONES, PATRICIA BLOOR, 90, died Thursday, December 4, 2008 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. Mrs. Jones was the former owner of the Patsy Bloor Dance Studios, which she founded in the early 1950s and, when she retired some 30 years later, boasted over 500 pupils with facilities in Oxmoor Shopping Center. Born in Kansas City, MO, as a child she showed a talent for dancing and by age 19 held the United States speed record for taps per second, 17, which was confirmed at a large public exhibition in Milwaukee, WI, where she was timed with a stopwatch. She moved to Louisville in the late 1940s where she subsequently established the Patsy Bloor Dance Studios. A member of the Dance Educators of America, New York, her "Patsy Bloor Dancers" opened the first WHAS-TV Crusade for Children and continued to do so annually for 25 years thereafter. Additionally, she served as Choreographer for the Miss Kentucky Pageant for over 10 years. During this time, she also served on the President's Council of the Louisville Area Chamber of Commerce and chaired two committees for the Advertising Club of Louisville. In 1960, she was asked by the University of Louisville to establish and train the "Cardettes," a 16-girl dance troupe composed of UL coeds, which would perform at halftime during UL football and basketball games. She took on this assignment and served as instructor and choreographer for the group for several years. In 1976, she and her dancers were chosen to represent the United States in a cultural exchange program with the then Eastern Bloc countries of Romania and Poland. Subsequently, because of the success of this European venture, in 1979 she and her dancers were again asked to represent the U.S. in a cultural exchange program with the People's Republic of China. She is survived by a son, Terry Trovato, of Natchez, MS. There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday at her church, Broadway Baptist Church, 4000 Brownsboro Road. Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road, is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the WHAS Crusade for Children.
