Patricia Ballance-Ingram, born in 1927, spouse of Ross Ballance-Ingram, daughter of Campbell and Beatrice, mother of Judy, Peter and Ted, died. Please consult the obituary here:
PATRICIA (PAT) BALLANCE-INGRAM It is with profound sadness that we announce Pat's peaceful passing on November 28, 2011 after a courageous battle with post-polio syndrome. Born in Toronto on July 28, 1927, she was predeceased by her parents Campbell (Cam) and Beatrice (Trix) Gibson, her first husband Lorne Ballance in 1981, her second husband Ross (Gussie) Ingram in 1986, her brother Bob Gibson in 2008 and her sister-in-law Ruth Gibson in 2011. She is survived by her children Judy (Alaistair) MacLean, Peter (Carole) Ballance, Ted (Marie) Ballance, grandchildren Leslie (Matt) Graham, Eric and Kelly Ballance, Adam and Carly Ballance and great-grandchild Dylan Larkin. She will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Pat took her schooling in Toronto and graduated from St. Clements Girls School and the Ontario College of Art. On St. Clements 100th anniversary, she was asked to paint a commemorative watercolour of the school, a recognition of her artistic accomplishments. After her marriage to Lorne and the birth of Judy and Peter, and while pregnant with Ted, she was stricken with polio in 1953 and was wheelchair and crutch restricted from then on. Not only did she display remarkable courage in coping with her disease throughout her entire life, she became an accomplished artist and well into her 80's continued to paint on commission and otherwise until just before her passing. Many felt she did her best work in the last ten years of her life when she elevated her paintings to a far larger scale. She organized and instructed an art class in her condominium at 2010 Islington Avenue for many years and shared her expertise and joy of painting with countless residents of the building. The annual art show and wine and cheese party where the residents displayed their work was a highlight at the condominium and was always extremely well attended. Her parents were pioneers at Lake Rosseau and she and Lorne not only carried on this tradition, but in turn passed it on to their children and grandchildren. Many happy summers were spent at the lake and they continue to this day. While she will be sorely missed by her family and friends, her exemplary courage, kindliness and grace, and utter devotion to her family will always be inspirational. A Memorial Service and Celebration of Pat's Life will be held on Friday, December 2, 2011 at 3 p.m. at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., at Windermere, east of Jane subway. For those who wish, donations may be made to the March of Dimes Canada/Post-Polio Society. Condolences may be made at www.turnerporter.ca
