SOMERSWORTH — Patricia Ann Flanagan, 70, of Rowland Street in Somersworth, died peacefully on June 13 at her home with loved ones by her side. Born in Portsmouth on May 14, 1939, she was a daughter of Lawrence and Lillian (Shaw) Kelley. A lifelong resident of Somersworth, she attended local schools, graduating from Somersworth High School with the class of 1956. Following high school she continued her education at McIntosh Business College. Early in her work career she served as a secretary in the Machine Shop at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. She worked for several years at Somersworth High School and for over 17 years she worked at City Hall in Somersworth serving the community as Tax Collector. She truly enjoyed working for the city, serving with several mayors and many staff members. She and her husband Richard Flanagan were in their 50th year of marriage, which began on Sept. 5, 1959. They settled in Somersworth raising a family together. While their children were growing, she was a Girl Scout Leader and enjoyed bowling and watching all of her children participate in school sports and activities. Pat and Richard enjoyed time together at Connor Pond in Ossippee after retiring from work. Pat and Richard often enjoyed trips to Foxwoods, and she loved to play a game of Bingo. She was a talented hand crafter, both knitting and sewing, and participated at craft fairs for several years after retiring. Pat was also an avid reader and enjoyed a good story. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her 14 grandchildren. Most recently they had spent the last seven years wintering at their home in Zephyrhills, Fla.She is survived by her loving family: her husband Richard of Somersworth; a son James and his wife Sandy Flanagan of Milton; daughters Judy Kuczwara of Derry, Jane and her husband John Foley of Exeter, and Jennifer and her husband Joe O'Leary of Maynard, Mass.; a brother, Lawrence Kelley and his wife Chari Leader of West Palm Beach, Fla.; sisters, Fran and Bill Weatherbie of Brunswick, Maine, Betty and Ray Plante of Lebanon, and Mary Fulton of Topeka, Kan.; as well as her beloved 14 grandchildren and 11 nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ignatius Parish, in Holy Trinity Church, on Wednesday, June 17, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Mike Taylor officiating; a time of refreshment and sharing will follow Mass. Friends are invited to visit with Pat's family on Tuesday evening, June 16, from 6-8 p.m. at the Bernier-Gelinas Funeral Home, 49 South Street, Somersworth, NH 03878. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the High Hopes Foundation of New Hampshire, 416K Daniel Webster Hwy, Merrimack, NH 03054; or www.highhopesfoundation.org.
