Pat Howell (nee Mattie Spear Snyder) was freed from this world, Friday, July 15, 2005. A 16-year-old high school graduate, Berea College came next, then successes in teaching, and retailing with Belinsky Enter- prises, Detroit, Mich. She was a "Rosie, the Riveter," where her less than five foot height and weight of under one hundred pounds would let her rivet World War II airplanes so proficiently that the president of Murray Corporation would come and buck rivets for her so a stocking could be rubbed over the rivet and not snag, because roughness would trap water from the air, freeze, and bring down an American aviator. An accomplished seamstress, Pat sewed for her family, including business suits and judicial robes for her judge-brother and dresses for the children of Potter's Orphan Home. Locally, she managed one of Mae's Fabrics. Volusia County Schools' Volunteer for the Year in 1985, she gave of herself and her means to nurture and educate children. She rode the camel in Israel and sang "The Tennessee Waltz" in Turkey. Her primary focus was Christianity. She was a longtime member of Daytona Beach Church of Christ: she taught classes, worked with bus children, expending herself in "every good work," supporting the efforts of those working in the church in various parts of the world. Mourning their loss, while celebrating her victory and the exemplary life that was hers, are her son, Denton Snyder, and his family, New Mexico, and local family, P.A. and Earl Arnold. Her mortal remains will be with her parents, brothers, and sister in New Hope Cemetery, Clay County, Tenn. Memorials requested to Mt. Dora Christian Home and Bible School, P.O. Box 1017, Mt. Dora, FL, which was one of the "good works" she heartily supported. Send condolences via the family guestbook at www.lohmanfuneralhomes.com. Arrangements are under the careful direction of Baggett and Summers Funeral Home.
