Obituary of Pansy-M. Jones


UPTON -- Pansy M. Jones, 88, of Upton, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2003, at Sunrise Manor in Hodgenville, KY. She was born on December 11, 1914, in Hart County, KY, to the late David O. and Annie (Copelin) Mabe. She graduated from Upton High School and Western Kentucky University. She taught at several one-room schools in Hart County before moving to Upton in 1945 and continuing to teach there until her retirement. She was selected national teacher of the year. She also worked for the US Postal Service in Upton. She was a member of Upton United Methodist Church, Upton Homemakers, Retired Teachers Association and the Hardin County Library Board. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Jones, brother, Bowers Mabe, and two sisters, Edna Wilson and Susie Caswell. She is survived by her son, Ralph Jones and his wife, Martha, of Upton; daughter, Sharon Cruse and her husband, Gary, of Upton; grandchildren, Ted and Jay Jones and Chase Cruse; great-grandchild, Evan Jones; several nieces and nephews; and several cousins, all of whom she was very proud. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2003, at Upton United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rob Hoffman officiating. Burial will be in Upton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2003, and 9 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Monday at Manakee Funeral Home in Upton.
