March 17, 1943-MARCH 21, 2013It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Johnson. He was predeceased by his parents Daphne and Jack Johnson, sister Helen and niece Katie Burley. Peter leaves his wife, Gail Byers; sister Susan Evans (Shann) and nephews Reid Barron (Erika, Esha and Aislin) and Cameron Barron (Michelle, Cooper and Chloe) in Perth, Australia; brother-in-law Tom Burley (Susanne) of Summerland B.C. and niece Greta Burley (Rafa Ladron) and nephew Nick Burley of Vancouver, B.C. As well, he leaves sister-in-law Barb Baker (Rick) and Stephanie and Jordan Baker and brother -in-law Bob Byers (Kelly Sprackett) and Taylor and Riley Byers.Peter was born in Newbury, England and moved to Moose Jaw after the war. His family moved to Victoria in 1962 where Peter graduated from UVic with a BSc in 1967. He worked in educational television, sub-contracted to Edgar and Miner and was latterly a courier. In retirement Peter was very active in the community volunteering for Beacon Community Services at the Brentwood Bay Thrift Store and was a Sendial shopper at Thrifty's in Saanichton. Peter liked to spend time on Piers Island and could always find something to fix on the island or at home. He enjoyed biking and rode several times a week and always on Friday with The Biking Group. Many thanks to the staff of the CCU at Royal Jubilee Hospital especially Shannon, Barb and Jen for their wonderful care of Peter. Flowers are gratefully declined but if desired donations may be made to Peter's favourite charities, Our Place and the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation.A Celebration of Life for Peter will be held at the Capital City Yacht Club, 10630 Blue Heron Road, North Saanich on Friday, April 5 from 2-4 p.m.
