->SOUTH CHINA -- Orville P. "Andy" Anderson, 78, of South China died peacefully Monday, Aug. 13, 2007, at his home.Andy was born Aug. 16, 1928, in Brainerd, Minn., the son of Harry and Flora (Magna) Anderson. He grew up in Brainerd and enlisted in the Army at the age of 17. He served in the Army during both the Korean and Vietnam wars, retiring in 1965 as a warrant officer. Andy met his wife, Tsuyako, while he was serving in the Army and they were married 54 years at the time of her death in 2006. After leaving the service, he started his contracting and woodworking business in Williamsburg, Va., known as the Old Quaker Craftsmen Co. He ran it until he retired to Maine in 1976. Andy was an avid collector and restorer of antique steam engines, doing work for many museums. He built scale models and worked on many full-size engines and even had his own narrow gauge railroad. He enjoyed teaching others, both in his career with the Army and in his years of retirement.Mr. Anderson is survived by his son, James Anderson and his wife, Beverly, of Gloucester, Va.; a daughter, Diane Moon and her husband, Lorne, of Williamsburg, Va.; a brother, Norman Anderson and his wife, Joanne, of Brainerd; and two grandchildren, Erin Anderson and her husband, Cliff Trueman, and Andrew Anderson.There will be an open house at Andy's home from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday where friends are invited to share memories of his life.Arrangements are in the care of Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. www.khrfuneralhomes.com
