Oren "Red" Lee Taylor, 92, of Springfield, Mo., went home to meet his Lord and Savior at 12:02 p.m. on Tuesday, October 30, 2007, after a brief stay at Doctors Hospital. Oren was born March 12, 1915, in Springfield, Mo., to Jesse and Linda (Dickens) Taylor. He was united in marriage to Martha Lavona Chitwood on April 20, 1941, in Nevada, Mo. He worked at Frisco Transportation for 31 years before retiring and was a member of Local 245 Teamsters. Upon retirement, he became an active member of Local 245 Teamsters Retiree Club. He then worked at Drury University and Ozark Automotive for several years. He was a member of College Street Baptist Church, Springfield, where he was baptized on October 29, 1950. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved camping, fishing, boating and traveling with his family and friends. He was also an active member of the Ozarks Antique Auto Club for many years. In addition, he also loved attending auctions and garage sales in his free time. In his later years, he enjoyed playing Bingo at Joy Assisted Living and Willard Care Center, the places he resided for the last five years of his life. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife; his special friend, Geneva Parker; a grandson, Eric Taylor; a son-in-law, Gary Hickman; and brothers, Otis, Ira, Forrest, Willard and Roscoe. He is survived by two children, daughter Glenda Hickman and son, Ronald Taylor and Lisa, all of Springfield; three grandchildren, Susie Compton and husband, Lonnie, Jeff Funk and wife, Lisa, Scott Taylor and wife, Tricia; four great-grandsons, Matthew and Brandon Compton, Zachary and Caleb Funk; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren on the way; one great-great-grandson, Izayah Compton; two brothers, Clifton and wife, Amalee, Stephenville, Texas, Chester and wife, Dorothy, Spencer, Iowa; sister-in-law Helen Taylor, St. Annes, Mo.; many nieces and nephews; other family members, including Jessica and Robert Shank, Mackenzie Annis and Amanda DeLong; as well as a wealth of friends and acquaintances. Visitation was held 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, November 1, 2007, in Greenlawn Funeral Home North, Springfield, Mo. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. this afternoon, November 2, 2007, in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to College Street Baptist Church, Springfield, to Local 245 Teamsters Retiree Club, or Community Hospices of America. The family would like to express their gratitude to Marilyn, Kathy and the staff at Joy Assisted Living and the nursing staff that cared for him while at Doctors Hospital.
