Opal Helen Wohner Carey, age 76, of East Fork Road, Mackville, passed away at 6:05 p.m., Sunday, March 23, 2014 at the Springfield Nursing & Rehab Center where she had been a resident for the past seven years.A native of Washington County, she was born on Jan. 15, 1938 to the late George W. and Snoda Lanham Wohner. She was a member of the Battle Baptist Church for over 50 years and was a homemaker.Preceding her in death was a sister, Anna Peavler, on Feb. 15, 1995.Survivors include, her husband, John Calvin Carey; a son, James Calvin Carey (Ellen) of Mackville; two daughters, Debra Sparrow and Mary Sparrow (Ricky) of Springfield; six grandchildren, Joseph Matthew Sparrow, Jordan Irvin Sparrow, Ashely Christina Carey, Casey Mae See, James Tyler Carey and Ricky Allen Sparrow, Jr.; six great grandchildren and a sister, Beatrice Robinson of Lawrenceburg.Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 27 at Carey & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Terry McIlvoy, pastor of the Rockbridge Baptist Church, officiating. Rev. Cal Adams, pastor of Temple Baptist Church and Rev. John McDaniel, a former pastor of Temple Baptist Church, assisted him.Burial was in the Battle Cemetery.Serving as honorary pallbearers were Ashley Christina Carey, Casey Mae See, Ricky Allen Sparrow, Jr. and Ricky Allen Sparrow, Sr.Casket bearers were Joseph Matthew Sparrow, Jordan Irvin Sparrow, James Tyler Carey, Billy Carey, Gilbert Carey and Billy Joe Sparrow.Carey & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
