JONESBORO - Olive Louise (Morris) Smith, 89, passed away peacefully March 2, 2010, at a Bangor hospital after a brief illness. She was born May 7, 1920, in Jonesboro, the daughter of Vonie and Beatrice (Mawhinney) Morris. She lived all of her life in Jonesboro. She was married to Ellis Smith for 64 years and together they raised three sons. Olive was very fortunate to have led a very active and healthy life throughout her almost 90 years. She enjoyed a lifetime of helping with the family's farm-related activities, such as blueberrying, harvesting hay and gardening. She was immensely devoted to her family, as they were to her. She enjoyed cooking many a meal for family and friends; including her great Saturday evening baked bean and hot yeast roll dinners. She also enjoyed her daily telephone conversations with her sister, Frances; and many friends. Olive greatly enjoyed all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, both locally and away, traveling as far away as New York City and Washington, D.C., to visit them. She will be sadly missed by all of them as well as the rest of her devoted family and friends. Olive was also an avid Red Sox fan and in addition to following the team on television, in recent years she was able to attend games at Fenway Park. In addition to her parents, Olive was predeceased by her husband, Ellis Smith in 2005; one son, Ronald Vonie Smith in 1967; one brother, Russell Morris; a grandson, David Smith; and a daughter-in-law, Donna R. Smith. She is survived by two sons, Wayne C. Smith of Harrington, and Stanley E. Smith and his wife, Donna, of Jonesboro; five grandchildren, Wayne G. Smith and fianc?e, Robin Douglas, of Milbridge, Frances Ashby and husband, Robert, of Brunswick, Ronald Smith and wife, Brittany, of Milbridge, Karen LoStracco and husband, Felix, of Alexandria, Va., and Kristine Smith and husband, Jason, of Bronxville, N.Y.; 12 great-grandchildren, Joshua and Erin Smith, Jessica, Cameron, Micaela and Connor Ashby, Bayley, Thomas, Joseph and Ting-Ting Ray-Smith, Jacoby LoStracco and Katiya Berkowitz; her sister, Frances Smith; two sisters-in-law, Natalie Smith and Elden Morris; several nieces and nephews. At Olive's request, there will not be any visiting hours. A memorial graveside committal service will be held in the late spring at Forest Hill Cemetery, Jonesboro.
