Obituary of Oather-Paul Doran


Oather Paul Doran passed from this earth on March 6 2005 after an intense battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at the Olivet Cumberland Presbyterian Church at 1:00 p.m. on March 8 2005 with the Reverend Duwayne Pounds officiating. Interment will be in the Wesley's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the Shackelford Funeral Home. Oather Paul was born in Hardin County on March 24 1935 and was the firstborn of John J. and Mamie Crocker Doran. O. P. lived his entire life in the Nixon community and graduated from Hardin County High School in 1952. His early career was farming and in 1962 he received the "Young Farmer of the Year" award. In 1995 he retired from thirty years of service as a rural postal carrier where he was a union steward. Oather Paul also served nine years in the Tennessee National Guard was a licensed pilot and served on the Savannah-Hardin County Airport Commission. His talents skills and hobbies were many including restoring antique cars flying cooking and playing dominoes with his Olivet C. P. buddies. He was an active member of the Olivet Cumberland Presbyterian Church and served as an elder. He recently received a certificate of appreciation for his many years of cooking for the Men's Monthly Fellowship Breakfast and he took top honors in the Men's Bake-off contest. Oather Paul was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include a son Mark Doran of Jackson; a daughter and son-in-law Betsy and Keith Whitlow; two sisters Nancy Shutt and Clara Ruth Hayman; niece Sherri Henson Cliff; great-niece Shelby Henson and his beloved dog Missy. Pallbearers are Jerry Pharr Sr. Jerry Pharr Jr. Jimmy Warrington James Warrington John Warrington and Jason Warrington. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the Olivet Cumberland Presbyterian Building Fund. Shackelford Funeral Directors Savannah TN 731-925-4000
