PETERS Norman Eugene Peters, M.D., Captain U.S. Navy-Retired; passed away February 7, 2008. He was born Feb. 5, 1937 in Hazleton, PA. to the late Dr. Howard Eugene Peters and Verna C. Peters. He attended Hazleton Senior High School (1954), Lafayette College, Easton, PA. (1958), Hahnemann Medical School, Philadelphia, PA. He began service in Naval Reserve at Bethlehem, PA. at age of 17 Ú, continued through college and medical school. Served as Medical Officer USS Nathan Hale; Medical Officer, Naval School, Underwater Swimmers, Key West, FL.; attended Nuclear Submarine Medical School, New London, CT; resident, Neuropsychiatry Naval Hospital, Philadelphia, PA.; General Medical Officer, Dispensary, Naval Amphibious Base, Little Creek, VA.; Senior Medical Officer, J.T. Boone Clinic and Dispensary NAB, Little Creek, VA.; General Medical and Senior Medical Officer NSA, New Orleans, LA.; Chief of Primary Care, NRMC, New Orleans, LA.; Senior Medical Officer NRMCL, NAVSTA, Mayport, FL.; Medical Officer, Navy Alcohol Rehab Center, Mayport, FL.; and retired in 1987. Dr. Peters was an animal lover and supporter of Humane Societies. He was a member of A.M.A.; AM. Board of Family Practice; I,D.A.A.; Association of Military Surgery of The United States. On Feb. 20, 1965 he married Mary Wall (deceased Sept. 6, 2001). He regularly attended chapel at Mayport, FL. Survivors are his beloved companion, Eloise McAfee, Jacksonville; brother, Dr. Howard N. Peters (Judith), Valparaiso, IN; niece, Elisabeth Peters (fiancŽ Courtney Prescott), Astoria, NY; nephew, Nevin Peters (Mary), Berwyn, IL; nieces, Elaine Tucker, Great Falls, MT; Jo Ruth Manson, Manassas, VA; grand nephew, Miller T. Peters, Berwyn, IL. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to service. Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 14, 2008 in Quinn-Shalz Funeral Home, officiated by Reverend Dr. Joseph Jursa. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 15, 2008 in the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in the name of Dr. Norman E.
