FORT FAIRFIELD and CONTOOCOOK, N.H. - Norma R. (Bubar) Van Buskirk, 82, wife of William T. Van Buskirk, passed away peacefully, Saturday morning Oct. 2, 2010, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Lester Milton Sr., in Contoocook, N.H., after a brief illness. She was born July 14, 1928, in Fort Fairfield, the oldest child of Donald and Evalene (White) Bubar. Norma was a graduate of Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1946, then attended Eastern School of Beauty and Barber, Bangor, and received her license in cosmetology. She returned to her native Fort Fairfield and established her beauty shop, which she owned and operated for more than 60 years. She was married to William T. Van Buskirk, March 14, 1949, and together they enjoyed 61 years of marriage. A devout member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Norma took great comfort and pleasure in all her work for the church and it's members, serving on the vestry, altar guild and all Episcopal Church women functions. Norma doted on her family and was extremely proud of them, displaying their pictures for all to see in her beauty shop. She became a kind and sincere friend to all those she met and treasured their friendship. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Van Buskirk was predeceased by one brother, Robert Bubar; and one sister, Sarah Farrell. She is survived by her husband, William Van Buskirk of Contoocook, N.H.; one son and daughter-in-law, William and Sylvia Van Buskirk of Brewer; one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Lester Milton Sr. of Contoocook, N.H.; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Roger and Helen Bubar, Wayne and Jackie Bubar, Gerald and Laverne Bubar, all of Fort Fairfield, and Donald and Marietta Bubar of Bristol, Conn.; three sisters, Shirley Bishop of Georgia, Linda Hickox and her husband, Terrell, of Massachusetts, and Susan Duran and her husband, Jim, of Portland; six grandchildren, Tobin Van Buskirk of Brewer, Lester P. Milton Jr. and his wife, Jennifer, Angela Gordon and her husband, David, all of New Hampshire, Dawn Mihelis and her husband, Nathan, of Massachusetts, Missy Michaud of Presque Isle and Carl Kratina of Alabama; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 166 Main St., Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Smith officiating. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held immediately after the interment service at the church reception area.
