Norma J. Miller Died - November 14, 2010 Plainfield - Norma J. (Swan) Miller, age 81, of 23 Easy Street, died Sunday, November 14, 2010, at Orchard Grove Specialty Care, Uncasville. Her husband, Eugene C. Miller, died November 12,1976. She leaves two sons, Donald G. Miller of Pomfret Center and David L. Miller of Brooklyn; three sisters, Bonita Doubleday of Virginia, Leah Thomas of Cape Cod and Mila Sprowls of South Carolina; two grandchildren, Eugene Miller of Plainfield and Erica Miller of Norwich. She was predeceased by her brothers, Claire Swan and Charles Swan; and by a sister, Betty Lou Mounts. She was born in Washington, PA, daughter of the late Charles and Maude (Wilson) Swan and lived in Plainfield most of her life. She had been employed by Knox Glass of Dayville. Norma Jean (Jeannie) Miller was an ordinary and an extraordinary woman. Her kind nature came through immediately to anyone she met. Family and friends knew this intimately, and in her last weeks and days,health-care providers came to know her honesty and love; they would pull visitors aside and tell us so in no uncertain terms. She was simply a loving and loveable soul and she didn't want people to be putting themselves out for her sake, even in her time of greatest need. Losing her is heart-wrenching and nearly unbearable to her close family and friends. And those who knew her more casually, through her local travels in town, will miss her warm smile and friendly way. Jeannie had done volunteer work at Day Kimball Hospital Physical Therapy in Plainfield where she enjoyed socializing and contributing to others' healing and recovery, even if indirectly. Her compassion for others was pure and spontaneous. During her own devastating but relatively brief illness, her greatest concern was that she would disappoint her family. She did not. We loved her deeply and dearly and our love is with her always. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Harwich Conservation Trust in Memory of Norma Jean "Jeannie" Swan Miller: http://www.harwichconservationtrust.org/index.html Harwich Conservation Trust, P.O. Box 101, South Harwich, MA 02661. Funeral services and burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
