Nora Jane Powell, 73, Republic, passed away at 10:34 p.m. Saturday, November 8, 2008, in Cox South Hospital, Springfield. She was born June 23, 1935, in Perryville, Arkansas to Fred and Matilda (Copeland) McComb. Nora was united in marriage to Richard Powell on December 29, 1954, and they were blessed with seven children. Along with caring for her family, she enjoyed crocheting and quilting and donating her time to various organizations. She was formerly an office manager at Helzburg Diamonds in Springfield. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints in Willard. A son, Raymond, and a brother, Al McCombs, preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Richard; two sons, Richard Jr., Wasilla, Alaska, and Ronnie of St. James, Mo.; four daughters and their spouses, Kathy and Rick Baker, Nashville, Tenn, Karen and Randy Brooks, Pensacola, Fla., Kim and Tod Hyslop, Talbott, Tenn, and Karlenne and Tim Knoth, Republic, Mo.; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill McComb, Roseville, Calif, and Loyd McComb, South Dakota; other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, November 12, 2008, in the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, Willard, with Bishop Rodman officiating. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service. Memorial Contributions may be made to Women's Victims Center of Springfield.
