Nina Smith, born in 1913, spouse of Ernie Smith, mother of Harvey, died on September 1, 2006 at 93 years old.
SMITH -Nina, of Prince Albert, passed away September 1, 2006 at the age of 93 years. Nina will be sadly missed by her son, Harvey (Doreen) of Calgary, her grandsons, Darwin (Erica) and Dwight of Calgary, her two brothers, Ken Beckman (Myrtle) of Prince Albert and Earl Beckman (Alietha) of Lawrence,Kansas as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Nina was predeceased by her parents; Lester and Sarah Beckman (1974) and husband Ernie Smith in 1988. Nina was born June 25, 1913 on the family farm just south of Saskatoon. following graduation from business college, Nina worked at John Deere Plough Co. and the Saskatoon Co-op Dairy, prior to moving with the family to the Paddockwood district in about 1933. Nina helped her parents on the farm in the Chesley area where she met Ernie, they were married in 1940. In 1957 Nina and Ernie moved to the village of Paddockwood where she remained until the fall of 2000. Nina worked at the Paddockwood Co-op Store, post office and in later years assisted Ernie at the Paddockwood Co-op bulk service station. After Ernie's retirement in 1979, Nina spent the next years until his death, insuring his comfort and entertaining their numerous friends and relatives who would drop by to see them. Nina enjoyed cooking and was always pleased to make a cup of tea and offer a cookie. In the fall of 2000, Nina moved to Prince Albert and lived for about 3 years at Mitchell Place. In June 2003, Nina moved to Golden Acres Care Home and later to Good Shepherd Villa, where she lived until her death. We wish to thank the staff at the Victoria Union Hospital during her recent stay and the staff at the Good Shepherd for their care. We would also like to thank all the relatives and friend who so kindly stopped in to say "hello " to our "Mom and Grandma " with a very special thanks to Uncle Ken and Aunt Myrtle for their extra effort over the years. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of MacKenzie Funeral Home with Ray Beckman officiating. Interment in Prince Albert Memorial Gardens.
