SMITH Newman R., Jr., age 67, of Lodi, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 after a long courageous battle with brain cancer. Loving father of Michael Smith and Jennifer Smith and her fiance Lou Gabrielli. Dear brother of Mary Sorace and her husband Ed and of the late Robert Gethings and William Gethings. Beloved son of Mica Pepe and the late Newman R. Smith Sr. Chip, as his friends like to call him, was a proud US Marine veteran of the Vietnam War. He served from 1966-1968. He was a retired security guard for the Bergen County Police Department. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, July 26th at Kugler Community Home, 311 Fifth Street, Saddle Brook, NJ from 2:30-5:30 PM. In lieu of flowers the family would like to ask that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Cancer Research Institute.
