Vernon, passed away at 10:55 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, in the Ozarks Methodist Manor in Marionville. He was born on September 13, 1934, in Kirksville, Missouri, the son of Frank A. and Rillia E. (Hoskins) Smith. Neal was a 1953 graduate of Kirksville High School. He worked as a Medical Technologist for the Mycology Department at the Missouri Rehabilitation Center and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon. Neal was an accomplished artist, avid gardener and had a lifelong passion for fishing. He will be forever remembered for his humor and laughter. Neal married Ola "Maxine" Smith on October 7, 1960. She died on November 27, 2003. He then married Martha Alice Manoli on June 29, 2004, in Mt. Vernon. She survives. Additional survivors include: two sons, Carmel Edward Hinkle, Jr. of Chevy Chase, Maryland and Donald "Michael" Smith and his wife, Tamara, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Edward Grant Hinkle and his wife, Kim, Blair James Hinkle, Taylor Neal Hinkle and his wife, Brittany, Mason Lee Hinkle, Christopher Jon Smith, and Michael Shane Smith; two great grandsons, Jackson Lee Hinkle and Benjamin Reed Hinkle; one niece, Patti Morris, of Kirksville, Missouri; three stepdaughters, Marsha Romero of Billings, Cheri Ryan of Lawrence, Kansas, Diana Drakeford of Springfield; one stepson, Chuck White of Bentonville, Arkansas; 14 step grandchildren; and 15 step great grandchildren. His parents, and three brothers, Donald Smith, Kenneth Smith and his wife, Mary, and Robert Smith and his wife Jean, also preceded him in death.A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2011, at the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home with burial at the Mt. Vernon City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 3, in the funeral home chapel.
