Nathaniel Shaffran Retired Long Island educator, WWII veteran, of Freehold, 90 Nathaniel Shaffran, 90, of Freehold, N.J., passed away on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014, at home, with his loving family at his side. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 2, at 12:30 p.m. at the Freeman Funeral Home, 47 E. Main St., Freehold. Interment will follow at the Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, N.J. He was a proud U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II. Nathaniel was a prominent educator on Long Island prior to his retirement. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Sylvia; his three children and their spouses, Gwen and Joseph Komyati, and Michael and Jonathan Shaffran; four grandchildren, Nikolas Komyati and his wife, Kristen, Daniel Komyati, Rachel Tsvaygoft and her husband, Dmitry, and Jennifer Shaffran, and three great-grandchildren, Nathan, Carter and Grant.
