Nancy Williams, born in 1929, mother of Gary, Ga, George W, Jr and Gregory K, died on October 29, 2013 at 84 years old.
AMERICUS, Ga. - Nancy Williams, age 84, of Americus, GA, formerly of Douglas, GA passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, GA following a short illness. Mrs. Williams was born on September 13, 1929, in Nicholls, GA to the late Shafter Merritt Meeks and Jessie Emiline Wheeler Meeks. Mrs. Williams attended Tift College and was crowned as Miss Nicholls prior to her marriage and assisted her husband with his dental practice. She was a member of the Sarah Betty Durham Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church in Douglas, GA. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, all of whom cherish her memory. Survivors include: her two sons, Gary (Juliane) Williams of Americus, GA and Dr. George W. Williams, Jr. of Augusta, GA, seven grandchildren, Cody W. Johnson, Dr. Rebecca Faye Williams, Dr. George Willis Williams III, Gary Wayne Williams, Jr., Nan Williams Bowman, Matthew Tanner Williams, and Aaron Merritt Williams; seven great grandchildren, E.J. Johnson III, Grace Elizabeth Stembridge, Leila Faye Stembridge, Emma Claire Stembridge, Eric Gregory Johnson, Kaylee Johnson and Atalie Johnson; sister-in-law, Jean Crosby Meeks of Jacksonville, FL; caregiver, Mrs. Gwen Brown, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. George Willis Williams, son, Dr. Gregory K. Williams, and two brothers, Shafter M. Meeks and William W. Meeks. Funeral Service was held on Friday, November 1, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Shep Johnson and Rev. Rodger Murchison officiating. Interment followed at Douglas City Cemetery. Pianist Steven Hornyak provided musical interludes for the services and sang Beulah Land. The Congregational hymns were Amazing Grace and Sweet Sweet Spirit. Steven Hornyak performed Shall We Gather at the River acapello at the graveside. Active Pallbearers were: Gary Williams Jr., Matthew Williams, Merritt Williams, David Vickers, James Edward Vickers, Bob Williams, Bill Meeks, Merritt Meeks, Charles Streat and Craig McCrary. Honorary Pallbearers were members of the Sarah Betty Durham Sunday School Class. Sims Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
