WYATT-BROWN Wyatt-Brown, Nancy Metcalf, 86, of BEAUFORT, S.C. died peacefully on August 29, 2002, after a brief illness. A memorial service will be held at 4pm on Sunday September 1st at St. Helena's Episcopal Church, Beaufort, S.C. A private service will also be held at the Fort Hill Chapel, Auburn, New York on September 7th at 2:00 p.m. followed by burial at Fort Hill Cemetery, Auburn, N.Y. Mrs. Wyatt-Brown was born September 23, 1915 in Auburn, New York, the eldest daughter of Harold and Maude Metcalf. The Metcalfs owned the Columbian Rope Company. A graduate of the Baldwin School and Finch College, Mrs. Wyatt-Brown married Wharton Green Jr. of Summit, New Jersey in 1936. A graduate of Princeton University, Mr. Green was the son of Clara and Wharton Green of Summit, N.J. Following their marriage the couple established residence in Auburn, N.Y., where he founded the Nye Wait Carpet Company, a manufacturer of designer custom carpet. Nancy Wyatt-Brown was the mother of eight children; Wharton Green III and wife Maggie of Hobe Sound, Florida, Harold Metcalf Green and wife Rita of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, Barton Nye Green and wife Elizabeth of Andover, New Hampshire, Nancy Green Ueland and husband Ran of Stuart, Florida, Clarissa Packard Green of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Carroll Green and husband Arthur of Decatur, Georgia and Susan Green James and husband Allan of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. An eighth child, Maude Nye Green, died in 1955. In addition, there are 24 grand children and 26 great grandchildren. Two sisters, Carol Metcalf Hole of Vineyard Haven Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts and Jean Metcalf Chapman of Auburn, New York also survive Mrs. Wyatt-Brown. Mrs. Wyatt-Brown was actively involved in Auburn, New York charities, including the Auburn Memorial Hospital. She was one of the founding members of the Auburn Community Players. She was a member of the East Chop Tennis Club on Martha's Vineyard Island, and the Owasco Country Club of Auburn, New York. In her years in Auburn she and her husband Wharton won many tennis singles and doubles championships when they lived in Auburn. She was an active and involved wife and mother to her large family. With her positive outlook, energetic and contagious personality, she thoroughly loved life, people, music, gardening and bright flowers. Over her lifespan she raised many dogs and was affectionately known by her children as "The Dog Lady." Through the years she has been loved and celebrated as a colorful and responsive friend to many. Due to her husband's health, the family moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in 1956. He died in 1969. In 1972, she married Hunter Wyatt-Brown. Mr. Wyatt-Brown was the father of four children; Hunter Wyatt-Brown Jr. of Washington, D.C., Elizabeth Green of Andover, New Hampshire, James Wyatt-Brown of South Miami Beach, Florida and Diana Haas of Lighthouse Point, Florida (deceased). In 1978, they moved to Beaufort S.C. where they built a new home on Lady's Island, then retiring to Ribault Road, Beaufort. For many years they also enjoyed their summer home in Chilmark, Massachusetts on Martha's Vineyard Island. Mr. Wyatt-Brown died in September, 2000. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a contribution to the local Humane Society or St. Helena's Episcopal Church Preservation Fund, Beaufort, S.C. The Copeland Funeral Home of Beaufort, S.C. and Fort Hill Cemetery, Auburn, N.Y. are in charge.
