Nancy Lynn (Peterson) Richards, formerly of Sloan, Iowa, beloved daughter, sister, aunt and spouse, died Friday, January 1, 2010, in Milwaukee, Wisc., after a brief, but courageous fight with cancer. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa. Burial will be in Westfork Township Cemetery at Climbing Hill, Iowa. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Lynn was born October 19, 1963, in Sioux City, to Donald and Carol (Koetters) Peterson. She graduated from Westwood High School at Sloan, Iowa, in 1982, and from Wayne State College in 1986. She worked in broadcasting, property management and, most recently, as a corporate trainer for federal financial compliance in housing. Lynn was an Executive Director of the Springfield Housing and Apartment Association. Lynn is survived by her spouse, Lawrence Johnson of Kenosha, Wisc., her parents, Don and Carol Peterson of Big Spring, Texas; a sister and brother-in-law, Wendy and John Bonaiuto of Lincoln, Neb.; a brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Laurie Peterson of Sioux City; nephews, Hoss Melton and Leighton Peterson; close friends, Idida Avila and Amy Wood; and innumerable friends. Memorials may be made to the family for later designation or to the Foundation for Lincoln Public Schools Randolph Fund for Excellence or Lynn Richards Memorial Scholarship.
