HICKS, Nancy Jo Thrower, passed away at home, peacefully, Wednesday, May 14, 2008. She was born in Tampa and was a lifelong resident. Nancy Jo was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Walton N. "Skip" Hicks Jr. She is survived by her children, Walton Randolph Hicks and his wife. Patricia Goddard Hicks, of Anchorage, Alaska, Nancy Hicks Irwin and her husband, LaCoste Ellerbe Irwin, of Spartanburg, S.C., and Christopher Neil Hicks and his wife, Virginia Miller, Hicks of Tampa. Her grandchildren are Walton Neil Irwin, Ellerbe Page Irwin and Molly LaCoste Irwin, all of Washington D.C., Margaret Telfair Hicks and Amelia Douglass Hicks of Tampa, and Dustin Goddard Chapman and Darrin David Chapman of Clearwater, Fla. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Nell Thrower Brownell, and husband, Arthur Brownell of Huntington Beach, Calif., and sisters-in-law, Lois W. Thrower of Sarasota, Fla., and Margaret Hicks McMichael and her husband, Frank Paul McMichael, and many cousins, nephews and nieces in the Paul, Thrower and Hicks families. Nancy Jo was the daughter of the late Nell Paul Thrower and Hanson Randolph Thrower of Tampa. She was a lifelong member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, serving in many capacities: as a reader, member of the board of directors, Sunday School teacher and librarian. She graduated from Plant High School, attended Florida State College for Women and was a member of Kappa Delta sorority. She was a member and officer of PEO International, past president of Azalea Garden Club, past president of Roosevelt Elementary School PTA and a sustaining member of the Junior League of Tampa. Nancy Jo lead a full, joyous and active life. She was lovingly dedicated to her husband, Skip, her children and grandchildren, her church, her friends and her community. A memorial service will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2008, at Blount & Curry Funeral Home, 605 S. MacDill Ave., Tampa, with a reception following. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to First Church of Christ, Scientist, 104 S. Cedar Ave., Tampa, FL 33606, to the Children' s Home Inc., 10909 Memorial Highway, Tampa, FL 33615 or to the charity of one' s choice.
