GUILDERLAND Nancy Evans Davis, 57, passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2005 at St. Peter's Hospital, after a battle with cancer. Nancy was born Nancy Evans Stinson on February 19, 1947 in Buffalo, N.Y. She graduated from North Tonawanda High School in 1965, from Elmira College in 1969 and from the University of Washington in Seattle in 1974 with a master's degree in art education. Nancy taught art in the Guilderland School District at Farnsworth Middle School for 33 years until she retired after the 2002 school year. Nancy brought a passion for learning to her family, her friends, her colleagues and her students. She loved art and dedicated her professional life to sharing that love with all those that had the privilege to come in contact with her. Her love of learning and art continued and blossomed even more after she retired. She would always say the best thing about her sons growing into adulthood was that now she could learn so much from each of them. Nancy also loved and cherished her family roots and always found ways to bring her nuclear and extended families together. As an avid and skillful photographer there are many pictures to document that fact. Nancy is survived by her husband, Bob; three sons, Seth age 28, Mark age 24 and Todd age 22; her mother, Elizabeth Humphrey Stinson of Redmond, Wash; mother-in-law, Esther Davis of Watertown and Guilderland, N.Y. She also was looking forward to welcoming Seth's fiancee, Holly L. Walker of Seattle, to the family. She is also survived by her brothers and their families, Scott Evans Stinson of Vashon Island, Wash., William Derksen Stinson of Redmond, Wash. and Humphrey Roger Stinson of Tonawanda, N.Y.; her brother-in-law, Dr. Andrew S. Davis and family of Oakland, N.J. She was especially dear to her friend, Dee Wedekind of Galway, N.Y., who was like a sister to her. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, February 12, 2005 at the Fredendall Funeral Home in Altamont at 11 a.m. Following the service, the Davis family would like to invite family and friends to a gathering at the Appel Inn to celebrate Nancy's life. Those wishing to remember Nancy, in a special way, may send contributions to either the Nancy Davis Art Scholarship Fund through the Guilderland Central School District, State Farm Road, Guilderland Center, NY 12085 or by contributing to the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) for cancer survivorship. LAF donations can be made, in Nancy's honor, through the following web site: https://secure.laf.org/ Peloton/default.cfm By selecting the Sponsoring a Member option and searching for Robert Davis or his account number (200253032) you will be able to make your donation in honor of Nancy to help fund cancer survivor programs.
