<!-- DisplayFullObituaryText -->Oct 19, 1947 ~ Nov 28, 2014 A woman who brought grace and kindness to every person, every room, every life situation she encountered, Nancy Lee (Caudle) Peters earned the nickname "Precious." She devoted herself to public and private ministries as a pastor's wife, teacher, church choir leader, counselor, mentor and friend. Nancy Peters went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, November 28 after a valiant eighteen month battle with brain cancer. Nancy was born in Asheville, North Carolina but grew up in Winston-Salem. As a young girl, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She graduated from Parkland High School (Class of 1966) and attended Tennessee Temple College in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where she graduated cum laude (Class of 1970). In both high school and college she was a student leader, cheerleader, and vocalist/choir member, as well as high school homecoming queen and college sweetheart queen. Her husband, Rev. Dr. Bruce R. Peters, met her as a college freshman classmate, recalling with a smile, "I'm the geek who married the homecoming queen." He added a salute, "My wife was the proverbial woman who would rather light a candle than curse the darkness." Nancy and Dr. Peters married shortly after their college graduation, on June 6, 1970 at Fairview Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. After her husband's seminary graduation, the couple served churches in Alabama and Kentucky. Nancy taught in Chattanooga, Tennessee public schools until her children were born. After many years as a stay-at-home mother, Nancy resumed teaching in Christian schools in the Northern Kentucky area - Heritage Christian Academy and then many years at Calvary Christian School. A thank you note from a fourth grade student summarizes Nancy's gift as a teacher: "I want to thank you for everything you have done for me this past year. You have made me feel very important to you and it is so amazing how close you are to God. I love your spirit and so does God! You are so kind, Mrs. Peters. I love you." (signed Sara B--) Since 2009, Dr. & Mrs. Peters have served with WORLD REACH, Inc. in Birmingham, Alabama, where he serves as an international teacher and communications director. Nancy was preceded in death by a son, Joel Wesley Peters, and her parents, George and Mary (Setliffe) Caudle. Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Meredith Kelly Peters of Hoover, Alabama and her brother, James Reid Caudle of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, as well as brother/sister-in-law Dr. Gary and Sherry Peters, and three nephews. A funeral praise-service will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at 11:30 AM at Shades Mountain Independent Church, Hoover, Alabama with Dr. Harry Walls, III officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM at the church. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham, Alabama. The family suggests memorial gifts be directed to WORLD REACH, Inc., designated to the "Nancy Peters Memorial Fund."
