ANDERSON Nancy Kristina, (nee Engstrom) Born April 3, 1908 to Arthur and Anna Engstrom on the island of Sarvsalo in Finland, passed away peacefully November 6th, 2007 in Maple Ridge, BC at 99 years of age. Predeceased by her husband Gunnar, Nancy is lovingly remembered by her son Harry (Marilyn) Anderson and daughter Nancy (Roland) Josefson; grandchildren Karen (Jason), Ben, Karl (Donna), Shannon (Glen), Chris, Heather (Mark), and Kristine (Mike); great-grandchildren Melissa, Kristin, Pam (Tyler), Sarah, Curtis, Max, Karla, Megan, Kaden, Clare and Kiara; great-great-grandchildren Riley and Cameron; and sister Hilda in Sweden. Nancy immigrated to Canada on July 19, 1929 to make her fortune. She met Gunnar in Vancouver and they were married on October 10, 1931. She worked with Gunnar to build the homes in Burnaby they lived in from the 1930's to 1960's. In 1960 Nancy and Gunnar moved to Maple Ridge in a house they built on 230th Street. Nancy and Gunnar enjoyed fishing and camping trips to many lakes in BC. After Gunnar's death in 1974, Nancy stayed active by gardening, travelling, being involved with the Maple Ridge seniors group ECRA and going to the family cabin at Osprey Lake to fish and plant her garden. Nancy lived independently until she was 94 years old. Her final years were spent at Creekside and Baillie House care facilities in Maple Ridge. The family appreciates the care the staff shown to Nancy, as well as the care she received from Dr. Lim over the years. A memorial service will be held to honour Nancy's life on Friday, November 9th, 2007 at 12 Noon at Garden Hill Funeral Chapel, 11765-224th St., Maple Ridge. Nancy created a rich life full of memories her family will always treasure.
