Obituary of Nancy-Swan Anderson


Nancy Swan Anderson, beloved wife, mother, and friend, died peacefully at home in Sonoma, California, on November 9, surrounded by friends and family. She was 83. A resident of South Mountain Road, New City, from 1941 until 1996, she was born in New York City, the daughter of Gulia and Byron Swan. She grew up in Suffern, New York, and attended the Baldwin School in Philadelphia and Barnard College in New York City. She moved to Sonoma in 1996 with her husband Alan, with whom she shared a rich and active life and raised three sons with loving attention. She was a dedicated homemaker, and was beloved by her wide circle of friends for her welcoming warmth, selfless generosity, and talent for hospitality and entertaining. Nancy is survived by her grieving husband, Alan, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage; sons: Alan Jr., James, and Douglas; granddaughter, Jennifer and grandsons: Henry, Willie, Sam, and Christopher; sister, Sylvia; sister-in-law, Hesper; nieces: Wendy and Margot; nephew, John; daughters-in-law, Rachel, Rebecca, and Paige; sister-in-law Thelma; four grandnieces, and two grandnephews. There will be a remembrance and celebration at the Rockland Center for the Arts at 2 PM on March 14th, 2004. The family requests that any contributions be sent to Valley of the Moon Hospice, 735 Broadway, Sonoma, CA 95476, whose expert caregivers were responsive and compassionate beyond the call of duty.
