Mrs. Nancy (Mead) Peters, of Wellesley, and formerly of Melrose, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, April 20, 2014, at Carleton-Willard Village in Bedford, at age 89. Nancy was born in Newton, the daughter of the late Varnum C. Mead and Gertrude (Ashley) Mead. She was raised in Wellesley, where she graduated from Wellesley High School, Class of 1942. She graduated from Wheaton College in 1946 and Katherine Gibbs School in 1948. For 25 years, Nancy worked as a secretary at MIT in Cambridge. While a resident of Melrose for 22 years, Nancy became very involved with many local activities and organizations. She was a volunteer at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, a Girl Scout Leader, a member of Phi Theta Xi Sorority, and served on the board of the Melrose YMCA. She was also a member of the Unitarian Universalist Society of Wellesley Hills. Nancy was an avid reader, gardener, and loved travelling. With her husband Paul and later with her dear friend, Mary Pierce, she travelled extensively to many locales including Australia, Hawaii, New Zealand, Italy, throughout Europe and the US. Nancy was very artistic, and in her spare time drew many beautiful sketches. Every summer for 50 years, Nancy enjoyed the beach and the ocean near her home in East Falmouth. She often entertained family and friends at her homes in East Falmouth and Melrose. She was the former wife of the late Paul A. Peters. Devoted mother of Susan Peters Kezer and her husband C. Henry of Melrose, and Sally M. Holbrook and her husband Scott of Acton. Cherished grandmother of Russell P. Kezer and Eleanor P. Kezer, both of Melrose, and Hannah M. Holbrook, and Eliza S. Holbrook, both of Acton. Relatives and friends will gather in honor and remembrance of Nancys life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Thursday, April 24 from 4-8 PM, and again on Friday morning where her Funeral Service will be celebrated at 10:30am.
