Myra-Thornton Smith, born in 1923, spouse of Grover-C. -Smith Jr, daughter of Sam and Pearl, mother of Gary and Paul, died on January 2, 2011 at 88 years old. Please consult the obituary here:
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Gadsden for Mrs. Myra Thornton Smith, 88, Gadsden, who passed away Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011. The Rev. Larry Fuhrman and Dr. Charles Hetzler will officiate. Burial will be at Forrest Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Service directing.Myra was a member of First Baptist Church of Gadsden, active in WMU, Sanctuary Choir and Seniors Choir. She also was the organist at Dwight Baptist Church for many years.She was preceded in death by her husband, Grover C. Smith Jr.; parents, Sam and Pearl Thornton; sister, Mabel Barnes.Myra is survived by her sons, Gary (Cheryl) Smith, Paul (Jan) Smith; grandchildren, Drew (Haley) Smith, Brett (Sarah) Smith, Kimberly (Paul) McGowan, Karen (Chuck) Hetzler, Greg (Erin) Smith, Clay Smith, Dana, Rob, Ryan and Cole Nichols; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Laura Nell Lipscomb, Leatha Nabors; and a host of nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Gadsden.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Gadsden music program.Condolences may be made at www.collier-butler.com.
