ANDERSON - Muriel Ellis, 86, of Stafford County died Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at home. She was a World War II Army lieutenant and a retired registered nurse. Survivors include two daughters, Muriel "Candi" Ryan and Catharine Cividanes, both of Stafford; one son, William G. "Geoff" Anderson, Jr. of Fairfax Station; granddaughters, Laura Cividanes, Allison Anderson, Catharine "Kate" Ryan; grandsons, Francisco Manuel Cividanes, Jr., Michael Cividanes, Alex Anderson, Matthew Ryan; and a great-grandson, Thomas Michael Cividanes. She lived a life dedicated to public service. Her many achievements included service in the American Legion; the Haworth, New Jersey Public School Board; a long and distinguished service with Bergen Pines County Hospital; and a committed and challenging position working with chemically dependent adults and adolescents at the Peninsula Psychiatric Hospital in Newport News, Virginia. Muriel, fondly known as Grandma Sam, retired and joined her daughter Cathy's family in 1985. She volunteered in campaigns for George Allen and George H. W. Bush. She remained active in local politics and community activities after moving to Stafford in 1990. A visitation will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, May 20 at Covenant Funeral Service, 4801 Jefferson Davis Highway, Fredericksburg, Virginia 22408. A memorial service will follow the visitation at the funeral home beginning at 4 PM. Burial will be at 10 AM on Thursday, June 1, in Arlington National Cemetery.
