STATESBORO, Ga. - Ms. Diane NeSmith Carter was born on October 22, 1950, and passed into eternal peace on June 27, 2013, surrounded by family. She was a substance abuse counselor for 30 years. She showed compassion and love to those who were afflicted by the disease of addiction. She believed life could begin again through recovery. Her life's mission was to help those who were lost find the road to recovery. Her final years were spent helping senior citizens learn life skills and gain independence. While she was many things to many people, her most cherished role was being ""Nina"" to her grandkids. She enjoyed shopping, eating out, cooking and playing Bingo.Diane was a member of the Clito Baptist Church.Waiting to greet her in heaven were her parents, Denver and Mattie NeSmith; a sister, Carolyn Deal; and a brother, Denver ""Buddy"" NeSmith Jr.Left to cherish her memory are three daughters, Teresa Davis, Brandy (Timmy) Wilson and Sandy (Vaughn) Jones; seven grandchildren, Justin (Charlotte) Harris, Sarah Lane, Whitney Jones, Jade Jones, Tevin Edenfield, Brandon Wilson and Cody Wilson; a sister, Joyce Nessmith; a sister-in-law, Jan NeSmith; and a brother-in-law, Lavone Deal.Visitation will be Sunday, June 30, 2013, at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m.The funeral service will be Monday, July 1, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Dan Zelner and the Rev. J.D. Turner officiating.
