Mary Skinner Edwards, Sugarmill Woods in Homosassa, FL, former longtime resident of Jacksonville and Tallahassee, FL, passed to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on August 5, 2010, after a lengthy illness.Mary was born in White Springs, Hamilton County, Florida, on October 24, 1918. She traveled parts of the country with her husband and child during the WWII years, living in Henderson, NV, for several years and then resettled in Jacksonville in 1950. Following the death of her husband, Edgar I. Skinner, Mary learned to become an independent woman. She learned the bookkeeping trade and worked more than 40 years, first with Coleman Flooring Co. and then with Fleming and Sons Tile Distributor. She also kept books at home for several small businesses. During this time, she remarried to Henry D. Edwards. Following his death in 1974, Mary continued working and devoted much of her time to her beloved grandchildren. She eventually retired and later moved to Tallahassee, FL, where her son and grandchildren resided. She remained independent until late 2007. She then moved again with her son and his wife to Homosassa, FL. Mary was a longtime member of Wesconnett United Methodist Church. She was a member and past officer of the T.O.P.S. organization for 35 years, belonging to chapters in Jacksonville, Tallahassee and most recently, chapter 365 Homosassa, FL, and made many lasting friendships. She kept in touch with many friends from all her travels and moves.In addition to her two husbands, Mary was predeceased by her son, Edgar Skinner Jr.; her father and mother, David W. and Ola Brown; and several sisters and brothers. She is survived by her son Edward R. Skinner Sr. and his wife Jo-An of Homosassa; two grandchildren, Edward R. Skinner Jr. (wife Debbie) of Tallahassee, FL, and Dean A. Skinner (wife Betsy) of Lexington, SC; their mother, Linda Skinner of Tallahassee; and 4 great-grandchildren, Savannah, Alexandria, Madeline and Alden Skinner. She is also survived by her sister, Doris Gillette of San Luis Obispo, CA; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Other friends of special note that she would want recognized are Donna Jackson of Tallahassee and Lucille Weaver of Jacksonville. Lastly, she is also greatly missed by her loving "couch companion," Freckles.Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, August 13, 2010, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Hardage-Giddens Town and Country Funeral Home. Services will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, officiated by the Rev. David Solomon.
