Obituary of Mrs. -Marion-L. Lee

MOODY - Marion L. (Bishop) Lee, age 98, was born Nov. 25, 1911, in Pelham, to James and Ocie Bishop. Mrs. Lee died peacefully at home. She left this earthly life on Sunday, March 14, 2010 to be with Jesus and her beloved husband, M. A. (Bill) Lee and her grandson, Keith. She had resided with her daughter in Hoover for several years but considered her home Moody, a town she loved with all her heart, where her husband, M. A. (Bill) Lee served as Mayor for 12 years from 1972 to 1984. She took on many responsibilities as First Lady of Moody from hand addressing the monthly water bills to Moody residences to cleaning the City Hall, since the Town of Moody could not afford to pay for these services. Mrs. Lee's grandfather, John Bishop was one of the first settlers and large land owners in the area. Her family moved to Cahaba Heights (then known as New Merkle) where they lived for several years before moving to Moody. She married M. A. Lee (Bill) at the age of 18 and moved to the west end section of Birmingham in 1937 where she lived for many years before moving back to Moody where her husband started and operated a Poultry Business. During World War II, Mrs. Lee became one of the First Women to be employed at Hayes International (now Pemco) where she climbed into the tail section area of B29 Bombers to do the necessary electrical wiring. She retired from this company in approximately 1967 after 27 years. Mrs. Lee lived a long beautiful life and because of her kind, loving disposition was loved by everyone who knew her. She always had a smile on her face and a kind word no matter what the circumstances and she will be missed by her family and all who knew her. Heaven is a better place today. She is survived by her daughter, Billie Joyce Weidenback; son-in-law, Jimmy N. Weidenback; grandsons, Kenneth L. Weidenback (Pam) and Kerry D. Weidenback; great-grandchildren, Ashley G. Weidenback, Kristen W. Kelley (Blake), Brittany J. Weidenback; great-great- grandchild, Landon Kelley; her beloved Dachshund, Ginger Bell Lee who was her constant companion for six years. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 17, at 3 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home Leeds Chapel with burial at Forest Crest Cemetery. Visit online at www.kilgroefuneralhome.com.
