TALLADEGA - Funeral service for Richard Lee Johnson, 73, of Talladega will be held Monday, June 1, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Sycamore Baptist Church with Bishop William Morris, Elder Samuel Jackson, the Rev. Johnny McKinney and Minister Dezi Spratling officiating. Burial will be in Lawler Cemetery in Talladega. Mr. Johnson died Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at his residence. He was educated in the Talladega County School System, retired from S & R Lumber Company after 40 years of service, and was a member of the Dominoes Social and Savings Club. He also coached the Dominoes and BT Express softball teams and was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church, where he sang in choir. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Johnson; and his parents, Grady and Ola Johnson; two brothers and four sisters. He is survived by his sons: James (Brenda Lee) Johnson of Anniston, Richard Johnson of Talladega, Michael Johnson of Talladega and William Johnson of Talladega; daughters: Brenda Johnson of Talladega, Peggy Hall of Talladega, Susie Johnson of Talladega and Essie Garrett of Talladega; brothers: William Johnson of Chicago, Willie Johnson of Dayton, Ohio, Cordell Johnson of Talladega, McKinney (Annette) Duncan of Huntsville and Jerry Duncan of Anniston; sister Ruth Johnson; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Johnson will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the service. Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the service.
