Obituary of Mona Townsend McLean


Mona Townsend McLean of Lafayette Hill, Pa., and Northeast Harbor, Maine, a retired real estate sales agent, died unexpectedly June 18 while vacationing in Greece. She was 81. Born and raised in Philadelphia, she attended Agnes Irwin School in Bryn Mawr, Pa. She was a resident of Philadelphia and Northeast Harbor, Maine, for many years. Mrs. McLean lived in Waltham and Cambridge during the 1950s. After graduating, she worked briefly for the Saturday Evening Post in Philadelphia. She later worked as sales agent for real estate company Emlen and Co. in Chestnut Hill, Pa., for several years. Mrs. McLean was a supporter of historical and land conservation in Pennsylvania and Maine, previously serving as board chairwoman of the Highland Historical Society in Fort Washington. She was a loyal volunteer for Monkey Business, a consignment shop benefiting the Chestnut Hill Health Care Foundation in Pennsylvania. She was a communicant of St. Thomas Church in Whitemarsh, Pa., and the Church of St. Mary and St. Jude in Northeast Harbor, Maine. She was a member of Sunnybrook Golf Club in Plymouth Meeting, Pa., and the Northeast Harbor Golf Club in Maine. Wife of the late Donald G. and the late Gibson Bell Kennedy, Mrs. McLean is survived by two sons, William Kennedy of Marion and Gibson Kennedy Jr. of Bethesda, Md.; two daughters, Laetitia Hoskins of Nashville, Tenn., and Katherine Hines of Beaufort, S.C.; a stepson, Robert of Fort Washington; two stepdaughters, Elizabeth Woodruff of Duxbury and Clare Cross of Fort Washington, Pa.; her longtime companion, Edwin Van Sciver of Gladwyne, Pa.; 15 grandchildren and stepgrandchildren; and a great-grandson. A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. today at St. Thomas Church, Whitemarsh, Pa. Burial will be private. Arrangements by Stuard Funeral Home, Ardmore, Pa.
