Miriam Kathleen Smith Miriam Kathleen Smith, 61, of Hillsborough Road, Riverview, NB, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, November 20 at the Dr. Georges- L. Dumont Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born in Moncton on August 3, 1941, she was a daughter of the late George and Elsie (Nelson) Smith. Miriam graduated from Moncton High School in 1958 and after completing Business School, worked for the Canadian National Railways at the Shops on John Street. At age 19, Miriam moved to Calgary, Alberta where her love for downhill skiing was born. She returned home after one year but continued travelling throughout Canada and the United States, working in many locations, including Montreal, Sarnia, Vancouver and Boston. Miriam's love of skiing lead her to winter trips to Austria where she made many friends. Summers were spent sailing with her long-time friend and companion, Gerry Doyle, on the waters off Shediac Bay and later in the Bras D'Or Lakes in Cape Breton. Winter weekends were spent at the family chalet, skiing at Poley Mountain. She was a 15-year past member of the Canadian Ski Patrol. In the last few years, while no longer able to ski, Miriam still enjoyed weekends at the chalet with family and her special friends, Betty Richard of Saint John, N.B. Miriam worked most of her career in Moncton with Eastern Broadcasting Ltd. in the accounting department and later with MacArthur's Nursery as the Comptroller and accountant. She obtained her Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation during this period. Miriam is survived by two sisters, Nancy (Walter) Meech of Hampton, NB and Audrey (Gary) Chapman of Riverview and two brothers, Ralph (Nancy) of New Maryland, NB and Eric (Lori) of Lower Coverdale, as well as two nieces and five nephews. Besides her parents, Miriam was predeceased by a brother, David, in 1964. Funeral Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Cadman's Funeral Home, 114 Alma Street, Moncton, NB. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-4 and 7- 9pm. The funeral service will take place at Wesley Memorial United Church, Moncton, NB on Friday November 22, 2002 at 1pm with Rev. Lloyd Bruce officiating. Burial will take place in the Wilmot Cemetery, Lower Coverdale, NB. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family. www.cadmansfh.com
