Minnie Mae Powell, 76, died June 11, 2008, at her home She was born in Blackville, S.C., and moved to Martin County in 1949. Before retirement, she was a hair stylist. She attended the public schools of Barnwell County, S.C., and graduated from Stuart Training School. She was a member of Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Stuart, where she was vice-chairman of the Deaconess Board, member of Choir No. 1, member and president of Choir No. 2, a member of the trustee board, Christian Women United, and a pastor's aide. She also was a youth choir mentor, member of Club 400, and prepared meals for her community. Survivors include her son, Elston McCrary Powell of Stuart; daughters, Barbara Delancy of Tallahassee and Kimberly Powell Peavy of Fort Pierce; sister, Louise Harley Albritton of Daytona Beach; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. SERVICES: Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. June 18 at Thorne's Mortuary Chapel in Stuart. A homegoing celebration will be at 11 a.m. June 19 at Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Stuart with the Rev. Elker Harris officiating.
