Minnie Mae Powell, 76, died June 11, 2008, at her home She was born in Blackville, S.C., and moved to Martin County in 1949. Before retirement, she was a hair stylist. She attended the public schools of Barnwell County, S.C., and graduated from Stuart Training School. She was a member of Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Stuart, where she was vice-chairman of the Deaconess Board, member of Choir No. 1, member and president of Choir No. 2, a member of the trustee board, Christian Women United, and a pastor's aide. She also was a youth choir mentor, member of Club 400, and prepared meals for her community. Survivors include her son, Elston McCrary Powell of Stuart; daughters, Barbara Delancy of Tallahassee and Kimberly Powell Peavy of Fort Pierce; sister, Louise Harley Albritton of Daytona Beach; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. SERVICES: Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. June 18 at Thorne's Mortuary Chapel in Stuart. A homegoing celebration will be at 11 a.m. June 19 at Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Stuart with the Rev. Elker Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Fernhill Memorial Gardens in Stuart. A guest book may be signed at www.thornesmortuary.com.
