ANDERSON, Mildred Jane "Andy" 91, of Dunedin, Florida, passed away on Feb. 3, 2013. She was born to the late George and Mildred Sparks Anderson on April 11, 1921, in Topeka, KS. She graduated from University City High School in St Louis, MO and received a B.S. degree in Physical Education from the University of Iowa. Andy earned her Physical Therapy certification from Stanford University. Andy served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps as a Physical Therapist for 20 years and was sent to many countries for her treatment of the wounded including serving in South Korea where she met her long-time friend Jeraldine "Jerry" York. After the Korean War, Andy served as Director of Physical Therapy at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington DC. She retired from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1966 and moved to Dunedin with Jerry who also served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps as a surgical nurse. Andy was an active member of St. Alfred's Episcopal Church in Dunedin and was an accomplished wood carver specializing in birds. She was a member of the Dunedin Golf Club where she was a regular golfer with the women's group and was instrumental in starting the Club's newsletter, The Divot, which is still being circulated to members today. Andy enjoyed traveling to Europe, Brazil, Taiwan, Morocco, and other places around the world with Jerry to visit her sister Mary Alexander's family and nieces and nephews. Andy is survived by Jeraldine York; her nephews, Harry Alexander and Peter Alexander; her nieces, Jane Casewit, Barbara Alexander and Molly Alexander; twelve grandnephews, and grandnieces, and a great grandniece. A private memorial service will be held locally for Mildred Anderson, her ashes will be interned at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
