Michele P. Smith, 63, Londonderry, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014, after a lengthy battle with ovarian cancer.Born in Seymour, she was the daughter of the late Paul Smith and Mildred (McCoy) Smith. She was raised and educated in Seymour and continued her education at Indiana State University, obtaining her bachelor of science in social work and her master of science in agency counseling. She loved working with the disabled adolescent and adult population within residential settings. She was employed by Perkins School for the Blind, Watertown, Massachusetts, for more than 20 years as a residential counselor/manager. Her most recent employment consisted of working part time for Harbor Homes, Inc., Nashua, New Hampshire, within their community residential settings. She also worked as a volunteer at Elliot Hospital, Manchester, New Hampshire, until the late stages of her illness.Michele was very well respected by both her colleagues and clients throughout her years of employment. She was known to have a great sense of humor along with a generous giving heart. She loved photography, which was inspired through her father during her childhood. She loved reading biographies and loved animals, especially her deceased chihuahua, Mousie.Michele leaves her former husband and longtime friend, Paul W. Salem Jr. of Manchester, New Hampshire; her longtime friend, Dave Hosseini of Sacramento, California; and many nieces and nephews.A memorial celebration will be at Durning, Bykowski & Young Funeral Home, 285 Manchester St., at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Patricia Long officiating.
