Michael Shawn Powell - COBBTOWN - Michael Shawn Powell, 31, died Sunday, December 7, 2008, from injuries sustained in a car accident. He was born in Beaufort, SC and lived all his life in Cobbtown. He was a welder with JBI Contracting in Oak Park and a member of the Lower Corinth Baptist Church. Michael loved being with his family, fishing, being a craftsman and jokester. He is survived by his wife; Bobbie Jo Collins Powell, sons, Gage Powell of Cobbtown, Dalton Powell and Luke Johnson both of Collins; step-sons, Trevor and Austin Hutto of Cobbtown; father, James W. Powell of Beaufort, SC; mother, Terry Sewell Ray of Vidalia; step-father, Robert Bowen of Vidalia; maternal grandmother, Melba Sewell Gerrald of Cobbtown and paternal grandmother, Nora Powell of Beaufort, SC. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 2:00 PM, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, with burial in the Sunlight Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, 6:00-9:00 PM at the funeral home.
