AUGUSTA and DEER ISLE - Michael Owen Carter, 58, died Feb. 19, 2011, at an Auburn health care facility. He was born Jan. 31, 1953, in Deer Isle, the son of Lawrence and Hilda (Barter) Carter. He enjoyed going to church on Sundays. He was an antique automobile collector and enthusiast. He worked for many years at International Paper Mill, Bucksport. He is survived by his friend and companion, Craig; his dog, Yodel; two sisters, Dorothy Easling of West Jordan, Utah, and Linda Haskell and her husband, Doug, of Little Deer Isle; two nephews, Edward Fetzer and his wife, Kaylene, of West Valley, Utah, and Michael Haskell of Homosassa, Fla.; one niece, Kathleen Andersen of West Jordan, Utah; plus nine great-nephews and great-nieces. The family thanks the staff of CancerCare of Maine, HealthReach HomeCare & Hospice and Hospice House of Androscoggin for the wonderful care throughout Michael's illness. Graveside services will be held in the spring at Forrest Hill Cemetery, Deer Isle. Gifts in his memory may be sent to HealthReach HomeCare & Hospice, 10 Water St., Suite 307, Waterville, ME 04901.
