Michael "Mike" McQueen, 52, beloved husband, father, nephew and friend, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, at a hospital in Louisiana. He was the chief of Bureau for The Associated Press in Louisiana and Mississippi.He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Glenda McQueen; his son Otto S. McQueen; a sister, Nichole Brewton, and a brother, Christopher McQueen. Other relatives include aunts, Joyce Holmes, Barbara Reddick and Roberta Manuel; uncles, Kenneth Manuel, the Rev. Edwin Eubanks and Rodney Eubanks; and a host of sorrowing relatives, friends and professional journalists throughout the United States.He was prededed in death by his beloved son, Michael A. McQueen II, his parents, Carolyn (Eubanks) and Otto Z. McQueen, and both grandparents. He graduated from Florida State University and Florida Atlantic University. He was a former chair of the Florida International University School of Journalism and Mass Communication and a former managing editor of the Macon (Ga.) Telegraph. He was a part of the Knight Ridder team of editors who directed coverage of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina for the Biloxi-Gulfport Sun Herald, which won the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service in 2006. There will be a viewing today, Nov. 2, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Leo C. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 262 West King St. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, 505 N. Rodriquez St. Leo C. Chase & Son Funeral Home is in charge of the local arrangements.
