ORMOND BEACH - Dr. Michael "Joe" McLaughlin II, 89, of Kathy Drive, who retired after 25 years as a college professor for Providence College, Rhode Island, died Sunday at Daytona Beach Health and Rehabilitation Center, Daytona Beach. A native of Providence, Dr. McLaughlin, an Army veteran, came here in the early 1980s from Narragansett, R.I. He was a member of St. Brendan's Catholic Church, the American Legion, the Loyal Order of Moose, the Elks and was a past Grand Knight of the Delaney Assembly Knights of Columbus, Providence. He had over 2000 hours of volunteer work at Florida Hospital Ormond Memorial. Survivors include a son, Michael, Ormond Beach; two daughters, Patricia Donnelly, Providence, and Marilyn Hennessey, Concord, N.H.; two sisters, Helen Leach, Ormond Beach, and Marguerite Liard, Lawton, Okla.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
